What We Do

What is so different about the Greek Philosophy Tours?

So what is so different about our cultural tours? Perhaps we could consider that under three headings: the Greek Philosophy Tours perspective, the content and the ambience.

The Greek Philosophy Tours perspective

The Greek Philosophy perspective is that learning and knowledge are the great pleasures in life and should be an enjoyable experience. Some of the evenings will be devoted to talks and presentations by acknowledged experts in their fields.

These talks will be academic, packed with facts and ideas which in all probability you will not have come across before. Put aside any ideas of dry and dusty lectures full of abstruse terminology; these will be entertaining and intriguing; Classical Greek learning was a joyful thing, carried out in public places, often accompanied by food and wine, a concept Greek Philosophy Tour intends to replicate.

The contents of Greek Philosophy Tours

The contents will cover three broad areas encompassing the essential features that Greece contributed to western culture, drama and literature featuring the works of Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. If that sounds too much like school, think in terms of “How to kill your husband” or “Marrying your mother”.

The second session will deal with the enormous contribution Greek philosophy and science made to human development, exploring the thinking and discoveries of great minds like Plato and Aristotle investigating their debts to their forebears. When Isaac Newton was told he stood head and shoulders above any other physicist of his generation, he replied, “if I see farther than others it is because I stand on the shoulders of giants”. He was referring to the Greeks.

The third area to be talked about will elaborate on the religious and ritual life of Ancient Greece; the beliefs in the powers that lay beyond the physical world and how these impinged on everyday life and the prominent part they played in the civic society and art of the time in Athens and elsewhere. You will gain insights into the cult of Athena and devotees of Dionysus.

Each presentation will be followed by free and informal discussion over a glass of wine.

The ambience of Greek Philosophy Tours

The ambience of Greek Philosophy Tours is as important as any other aspect of the project; we want you to remember being absorbed in the presentations in atmospheric places, to relish the food cooked with love and care in specially chosen restaurants.

The visits to all the archaeological sites and the famous monuments, enjoyable and priceless in themselves will be complemented by guided tours by experts in archaeology (Acropolis of Athens, Epidaurus, Mycenae, Tiryns, Delphi, and Ancient Olympia are among the World Heritage UNESCO Sites in Greece)

Seeking to satisfy travelers who would like to live a different and a most memorable experience we implement fascinating cultural tours in the glamorous Aegean islands – Santorini, Mykonos, Crete – and the charming island of Ithaca in the Ionian Sea.
